Anxiety is not the same as worry. Worry is a thought. Anxiety is a whole-body state that arrives first and finds its reasons afterwards — which is why arguing with it so rarely works.
It is also expensive in ways that are easy to miss. The list of things you quietly do not do any more gets longer. The mental energy spent rehearsing conversations that never happen is energy unavailable for the rest of your life. And because avoidance works brilliantly in the short term, the pattern reinforces itself every single time.
The way out runs through both channels at once: settling the body enough that thinking becomes possible again, and then working directly with the thoughts and the avoidance.
How the work tends to go
Usually a combination: somatic and breath-based regulation for the body, CBT for the thought patterns and the avoidance, and mindfulness for the capacity to notice it starting before it has taken over.
