Where you look affects how you feel

Brainspotting Therapy

A focused-mindfulness approach that uses a fixed eye position to reach trauma held below the reach of language.

The soft, dark surface of still water

Brainspotting grew out of EMDR and rests on the observation that specific points in your visual field are linked to where distress is held in the deeper, subcortical brain — the part that runs on sensation and survival rather than words.

Together we locate a 'brainspot': an eye position where the activation is strongest, often found by noticing a reflexive blink, a shift in breathing, or a change in how the feeling sits in your body. You then hold that gaze and stay with whatever arises while I stay attuned alongside you.

It is quieter than most therapy. There is far less talking and far more noticing. For people who find that words flatten the experience, or who go articulate and analytical the moment they are asked to explain, that quiet is often the point.

What a session involves

We identify what you want to work on, find the brainspot, and then largely stop talking. Sessions are attuned and unhurried, with check-ins as needed and time at the end to return fully to the room.

Nicole is trained in Brainspotting Phases 1 through 5, including Parts Work.
